SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Sunlodge 12 has eight windows and two doors and a maximum center height of 7' 0, which is a little bit less than the average height of the 17 different 12 person tents we have examined With 166 square feet of room inside, it is significantly smaller than some other 12-person tents, and it would be quite cramped for you and, up to eleven other campers all through the 3-seasons, this tent is recommended for use in, larger tents similar to this one often can make a very nice choice for families who welcome having loads of space inside their tent.

Something we like about cabin tents is, that the sides of the tent are basically vertical making for a spacious interior, this allows for much more headroom at the sides of the tent, making it feel much larger than other types of tents, in general the floor areas are quite large compared to other tents. Normally cabin tents are used by people going on a camping trip in a car or a truck as they are quite heavy when compared to dome tents. That dose though make them better suited to colder months. Lot’s of cabin tents have more than just one room to stay in, just like the Coleman Sunlodge two-room tent

Below you can find a list of the tent's strongest and weakest points.

PROS

  1. Internal storage. It is nice to see Coleman has added a gear loft and pockets in the interior to store some of your things.
  2. More than one room. The Sunlodge comes with two rooms, allowing for extra privacy. Ideal for a large family and groups who do not want to be all sleeping together.
  3. Removable divider. For those who would like to maximize all of the available space that the Sunlodge provides, the divider can be detached to have one large room for everyone to share.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is simpler to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. More than one window. With 8 openings it is easier to keep the tent ventilated on a hot summers night.
  6. Breathable. The Sunlodge's interior uses a mesh fabric on the inside of the tent, and this helps maximize the flow of air. With the extra ventilation, and this tent is great for use in the warmer months.
  7. Available in other sizes. Coleman has also made this model available in Other Sizes.

CONS

  1. Not spacious. With a floor area of 166 square feet, the Sunlodge 12 is smaller than quite a few of the 18 other 12 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 8% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative factor for some campers.
  3. No Vestibules. If you want to keep your dirty shoes, clothes, and backpacks protected from the rain etc, you will have to keep them inside the tent.
  4. Rainfly does not totally cover the tent body. The rainfly only covers the ceiling and part of the tent body from the top. Meaning it may not protect against heavy downpours.
  5. Uses Fiberglass poles. Even though the poles are comprised of steel & fiberglass. Using even some fiberglass with a big tent like the Sunlodge 12 could possibly lead to problems, if there were to be extreemly windy conditions.
  6. Poor Heat Retention. The general construction of the Coleman's Sunlodges interior is designed to easily let air in and out. Therefore, it cannot keep heat inside, making it unsuitable for use in winter.
  7. Heavy. Even though heavy is not in it self a negative, it is worth noting that the Sunlodge 12, weighs 44 pounds and has a packed size of 13.5 x 13.5 x 27 inches. Clearly it is designed for camping with a vehicle and would not be super simple to set up on your own.
  8. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, The floor may be made of WeatherTec system's welded corners and inverted seams help keep water out but it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, more so on rough terrain.
  9. Out of Stock. Unfortunately this particular tent is not currently in stock. It is still on the manufactures website the last time we looked.

CONCLUSION

4 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 4.0 STARS

Coleman's Sunlodge 12 tent is really good for car camping. Here are a few other nice points not mentioned above which, were noticed and liked, while researching the model: 3 large door awnings provide additional weather protection and allows better airflow, E-port makes it easy to access an extension cord so you can bring electrical power inside your tent and Rainfly connections to the left of the doors, and brow pole sleeves, are color-coded red to help orient the rainfly.

With great ratings, and a minimum headroom of 7' and 166 square feet of space to play with, this tent is like your own modest palace. This will allow you and up to 10 other campers to share some delightful time camping together. We found a decent amount of pros about the tent that you can read through above.

If you found this page looking for recommendations on this particular tent, our view is, it will make for a good buy. In case you simply happened to land on this website while browsing for a brand new tent having not heard of this brand or this tent previously, it is perhaps a good thing to check out a few other similar tents.

Value for money: As far as value for money, this tent is more expensive than the standard price point of all the seventeen, twelve-person tents we have looked at, this just by itself is not a negative thing. We also need to take into account other things in-depth, as we do with each tent.

When we measure the score of a single tent, we study loads of stuff, searching for points where the tent could beat other near-identical tents and where it is coming up short. In this case, with a total rating of 4.0 and the price details above, It is simple to identify that with a cost of $419.99 Coleman's Sunlodge 12 is a good bargain even though it could be thought of as a little expensive when set side by side with comparable tents.

Its ratings show that the quality and size the tent provides make it a good buy for people looking for a tent that can be used for many years. It will make a decent choice for most people looking for an adequate three-season cabin tent to camp in, that should serve you well for years to come.
