Summary: Favorable Reviews

Some backpackers who experienced the tent said: The strong pole structure saved me during high wind conditions. I love how there are pockets inside, not only for my gear but also for other small items. The huge floor footprint was terrific. It is streamlined to the wind. It also comes with extra patching materials and tie-down cords, which surprised me. I highly recommend this.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

Campers who utilized the tent noted that: Despite having top-class materials, it is still heavy and bulky compared to other models in this price range. The rainfly design is also flawed. It is too short to keep the rain off the tent. After more than two years of use, waterproofing issues occurred. I noticed that the fly became sticky, and the taped seams broke apart. But still, it was great because it was able to hold up that long.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Mesa 2 has one window and two doors and a peak center height of 3' 8, which is a tiny bit less than the average height of the 240 different 2 person tents we have studied. With 33 square feet of room inside, it is a little bit smaller than some other 2-person tents, and it could be a little tight for you and, another camper throughout the 3-seasons, this tent is approved for use in, smaller tents like this one can generally make a really nice choice for people that love spending loads of time outside their tent getting some air.

Many of the fantastic points about dome tents are, that they are for, the most part lightweight, making them easy to carry. In nearly all instances, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are usually, freestanding and very straightforward to set up. In calm weather, you can do without securing the tent with stakes and ropes, not that this is suggested.

Dome tents are without a doubt the most commonly seen of all the other types of tents you will find when camping. They tend to do better in bad weather than other types, allowing rain to easily slide off the sloped walls, unlike cabin tents that have flat roofs, allowing the rain to pool on the top of the tent. The most straightforward dome tent should have a rectangular footprint, sloped sides two or more poles which converge in the middle of the roof. Because of their construction, it is typically thought of that they are best suited for up to a maximum of 6 campers.

Beneath you can find a list of the tent's strongest and weakest points.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Mesa can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not even have to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Gives you a place to store shoes and other things that can get dirty, muddy, this is a big plus.
  3. Internal storage. It is nice to see Black Diamond has added a gear loft and pockets in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is simpler to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. Breathable. The Mesa's interior uses a mesh fabric on the inside of the tent, and this helps maximize the flow of air. With the extra ventilation, and this tent is great for use in the summer.
  6. Low price. It is a great purchase for a 2 person dome tent providing this much space. Not a lot of tents available on the market provide this level of quality for only $350

CONS

  1. Not roomy. With a floor area of 33 square feet, the Mesa 2 is smaller than quite a few of the 251 other 2 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, The floor may be made of Coated taffeta but it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  3. Discontinued: Unfortunately this particular tent has been discontinued on the manufactures site and is no longer available elsewhere, that we know of.
  4. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have lots of qualities to rave about. The sloping walls do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

Our Ratings: 4.2 STARS

Black Diamond's Mesa 2 tent is perfect for backpacking. There are a few other nice points not mentioned above which, we noticed and liked, while researching the model: Dual vestibules add storage space for wet or muddy gear, Rainfly vents allow airflow at the top of the tent and Hubbed system eliminates the need to sort out poles for setup.

With positive ratings, a couple of reviews and headroom of 3' and 33 square feet of space to enjoy, this tent is like your own small home away from home. This will enable you to enjoy some real quality moments hanging out with nature. We found more positive things than cons about the tent that you can study above.

If you found this website looking for recommendations on this actual tent, we think, it will make for a great buy. In case you just happened to land on this page while browsing for a new tent having never heard of this brand or this tent model before, it is perhaps a good thing to check out a few other comparable tents.

Value for money: When thinking about value for your money, this tent is a more competitive than the usual price of all the two hundred and fourty, two-person tents we have taken a look at, this by itself does not make it remarkable value for money. We also need to think about other factors in-depth, as we do for every tent.

When we calculate the ratings of a single tent, we examine a lot of things, searching for points where the tent could outshine other comparable tents and where it is lacking. On this occasion, with an overall rating of 4.2 and the price conclusions above, one can recognize that with a cost of $350 Black Diamond's Mesa 2 is a very good bargain and incredibly cheap when compared with similar tents.

Its ratings show that the quality and capacity the tent provides were not skimped on to finish up with a price tag undoubtedly beneath the average price for similar tents. It will make an exceptional choice for most people looking for a comfortable three-season backpacking tent to camp in, that should serve you well for years to come.
