Summary: Favorable Reviews

This is a nice buy. Aside from the storage pockets, there's also a small overhead gear loft. You can definitely put your stuff in here--- a lot actually.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

You see, this is lovely. But, the price is just too high. I know some expert campers would say that I should invest in tents, but I am just a normal person that doesn't travel frequently. The price isn't right.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Jack Rabbit SL 4 has two doors and a maximum center height of 4' 3, which is 13 inches less than the average height of the 134 other 4 person tents we have studied. With 57 square feet of room inside, it is considerably smaller than some other 4-person tents, and it would be quite cramped for you and, up to three other campers throughout the 3-seasons, this tent is recommended for use in, smaller tents similar to this one are an ideal choice for people that welcome spending loads of hours outside of their tent exploring.

Many of the cool points about dome tents are, that they are generally speaking not too heavy, making them simple to carry. In near all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are generally speaking, freestanding and very straightforward to set up. In good weather, you could do without guy lines and stakes, not that this is recommended.

Dome tents are easily the most commonly seen of all the other types of tents you will find when camping. They tend to do better in storms than other types, allowing rain to roll off the slanted walls, unlike cabin tents that have flat roofs, resulting in the water pooling on the roof. The simplest dome tent should have a rectangular footprint, slanted sides a couple of poles which converge in the center of the roof. Because of their construction, it is typically considered that they are best for up to a maximum of 6 people.

Underneath you can browse an account of the tent's pros and cons.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Jack Rabbit SL can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not need to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Affords you a place to store shoes and other things that can get dirty, muddy, this is a huge plus.
  3. Has Gear Loft. It is nice to see Big Agnes adding a gear loft in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is easier to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the entire body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 0mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy rain.

CONS

  1. Not roomy. With a floor area of 57 square feet, the Jack Rabbit SL 4 is smaller than quite a few of the 134 other 4 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 13% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative factor for some people.
  3. No windows. With no windows it is not easy to keep the tent ventilated on a hot summers night.
  4. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, there is one available separately designed for the Jack Rabbit SL 4 footprint Even though the floor may be made of Coated ripstop nylon, it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  5. Discontinued: Unfortunately this particular tent has been discontinued on the manufactures website and is no longer available elsewhere, that we know of.
  6. A little heavy for backpacking. Even though the Jack Rabbit SL 4, looks like a small tent, it is not ideal for backpacking as it weighs 6 pounds. This is quite a lot more than many other backpacking tents
  7. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have heaps of qualities to be positive about. The sloping walls do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

4.6 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 4.6 STARS

Big Agnes's Jack Rabbit SL 4 tent is really good for backpacking. Here are a few other cool things not mentioned above which, we noticed and liked, while reviewing the model: Two fly vents for increased airflow and reduced condensation; fully closable in extreme weather , Oversized 3-D bin pockets provide ample storage without encroaching on your livable space and All seams taped with waterproof, solvent-free polyurethane tape (No PVC or VOC's).

With fantastic ratings, a decent amount of reviews and a peak height of 4' and 57 square feet of space for sleeping, this tent is like your very own little flat. It will enable you together with 2 other people to spend some real quality moments camping together. We found a decent amount of pros about the tent that you can study above.

If you came to this website looking for an endorsement about this particular tent, our view is, it should make for an excellent purchase. In case you just happened to land on this page while looking for a new tent having never heard of this brand or this tent before, it is perhaps a good idea to look at a few more similar tents.

Value for money: When thinking about value for your money, this tent is more expensive than the usual cost of all the one hundred and fifty-four, four-person tents we have studied, this just by itself is not a negative thing. One should also take into account other factors in-depth, as we do with every tent.

When we measure the valuation of a tent, we consider tons of stuff, searching for things where the tent could exceed other similar tents and where it is not quite as good. In this case, with an overall score of 4.6 and the price conclusions above, we can view that with a ticket price of $499.95 Big Agnes's Jack Rabbit SL 4 is an exceptional purchase even though it could be considered quite expensive when compared with comparable tents.

Its ratings show that the quality and capacity the tent provides make it an excellent purchase for people wanting a tent that will last for many years. It could make an ok choice for most campers looking for a comfy three-season dome tent to camp in, that should serve you well for years to come.
