Summary: Favorable Reviews

This is a nice buy. Aside from the storage pockets, there's also a small overhead gear loft. You can definitely put your stuff in here--- a lot actually.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

You see, this is lovely. But, the price is just too high. I know some expert campers would say that I should invest in tents, but I am just a normal person that doesn't travel frequently. The price isn't right.

The Jack Rabbit SL 4 has two doors and a peak center height of 4' 3, which is 13 inches less than the average height of the 130 different 4 person tents we have studied. With 57 square feet of space inside, it is considerably smaller than some other 4-person tents, and it would be quite tight for you and, up to three other campers all through the 3-seasons, this tent is recommended for use in, smaller tents like this one often make a really nice choice for campers who prefer spending lots of time outside of their tent exploring.

A few of the great things about dome tents are, that they are under normal circumstances lightweight, making them simple to carry. In most all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are usually, freestanding and very easy to set up. In good weather, you can do without guy lines and stakes, not that this is recommended.

Dome tents are the most common of all the different types of tents you will see when camping. They tend to do better in storms than other types, allowing rain to easily slide off the sloped walls, unlike cabin tents that have flat roofs, allowing the water to pool on the roof. The most straightforward dome tent will have a rectangular footprint, sloped sides two or more poles which converge in the middle of the roof. Because of the way they are made, it is generally considered that they are best for up to a maximum of 6 campers.

Beneath you can check out an account of the tent's pros and cons.

  1. Freestanding. The Jack Rabbit SL can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not need to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the ground with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Gives you a place to store shoes and other things that can get dirty, muddy, this is a huge plus.
  3. Has Gear Loft. It is nice to see Big Agnes adding a gear loft in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is simpler to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the whole body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 0mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy rain.

  1. Not spacious. With a floor area of 57 square feet, the Jack Rabbit SL 4 is smaller than quite a lot of the 130 other 4 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 13% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative thing for some campers.
  3. No windows. With no windows it is not simple to keep the tent cool on a hot summers night.
  4. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, there is one sold separately specifically for the Jack Rabbit SL 4 footprint Even though the floor may be made of Coated ripstop nylon, it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  5. Discontinued: Unfortunately this particular tent has been discontinued on the manufactures site and is not available elsewhere, that we are aware of.
  6. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have heaps of things to rave about. The sloping walls do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.
