Summary: Favorable Reviews

It's pretty huge. You can even put your dog and your gears. Not expensive and not cheap. I was just impressed that it didn't compromise the quality that you will get for the money that you will be paying.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

The tent is pretty decent. Simple design, though, when you like it simple, then it is a perfect match. Read some problems with other buyers and experienced the same.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Tasmanian 3 has two doors and a maximum center height of 4' 6 which is a little bit less than the average height of the 126 different 3 person tents we have studied. With 44 square feet of space inside, it is a tiny bit smaller than some other 3-person tents, and it could be a little cramped for you and, up to two other campers during the 4-seasons this tent is recommended for. Smaller tents similar to this one are a really good choice for people that appreciate spending loads of time outside of the tent enjoying the fresh air.

Some of the great things about dome tents are, that they are under normal circumstances lightweight, making them easy to carry around. In nearly all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are usually, freestanding and very straightforward to set up. In calm weather, you could do without securing the tent with stakes and ropes, not that this is recommended.

Dome tents are easily the most common of all the different sorts of tents you will see when camping. They tend to fair better in storms than other types, allowing rain to roll off the sloped walls, unlike cabin tents that have flat roofs, resulting in the rain pooling on the roof. The most straightforward dome tent will have a square footprint, sloped walls a couple of poles which converge in the middle of the roof. Due to the way they are made, it is usually considered that they are best suited for up to a maximum of 6 campers.

Down below, you can find an account of the tent's strongest and weakest points.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Tasmanian can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not even have to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the ground with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Gives you a place to store shoes and other things that can get dirty, muddy, this is a huge plus.
  3. Has Gear Loft. It is good to see Alps adding a gear loft in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is easier to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. Durable, water-resistant floor. The floor material is 75D 185T poly taffeta, which is a substantially thick and high-strength fabric. Meaning the base is not prone to rips and punctures. Also, the material has a 5000 mm waterproofing rating, which is very good for most circumstances.
  6. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the whole body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1500mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy downpours.
  7. Lots of Positive Reviews The Tasmanian 3 has Tons of very good Reviews
  8. Impressive Ratings The Tasmanian 3 has some of the best ratings of all the tents on optimumtents.com
  9. Other sizes are available. Alps has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  10. Low price. It is a great deal for a 3 person dome tent that provides this much room. Not many tents available on the market provide this level of quality for only $293.48 info_outline

CONS

  1. Not roomy. With a floor area of 44 square feet, the Tasmanian 3 is smaller than quite a few of the 126 other 3 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, there is one sold separately designed for the Tasmanian 3 footprint Even though the floor may be made of 75D 185T poly taffeta, it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  3. A tad heavy for backpacking. Even though the Tasmanian 3, looks like a small tent, it is not ideal for backpacking as it weighs 9 pounds. This is quite a lot more than many other backpacking tents
  4. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have lots of attributes to rave about. The sloping walls do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.
  5. Storage Space. because of the size of the tent, one cannot store much gear inside..

CONCLUSION

Our Ratings: 5.0 STARS

Alps's Tasmanian 3 tent is great for bicycle & motorbike camping. There are a couple of other points not noted above which, we noticed and liked, while reviewing the model: With an additional pole on the fly, it creates a very large vestibule on the front for even more gear storage., The Tasmanian uses extra-large #8 zippers so opening doors and vestibules are a breeze every time. and Easy entry and great ventilation with two doors (both with zippered mesh windows).

With superb ratings, tons of reviews and headroom of 4' and 44 square feet of space to play with, this tent is like your own little apartment. It allows you to spend some real quality time camping. We found a decent amount of positive points about the tent that you can check out above.

Value for money: When thinking about value for your money, this tent is cheaper than the average price of all the one hundred and eighty, three-person tents we have looked at, this by itself does not make it good value for money. One should also think about other areas in detail, as we do for each tent.

In this case, with an overall score of 5.0 and the price statistics above, It is simple enough to spot that with a cost of $293.48 info_outline The Tasmanian 3 is a perfect purchase and competitively priced in comparison with similar tents.

It is also worth thinking about the fact that it is reduced by 27% from the manufactures suggested retail price. It will make a fantastic choice for most people looking for an appropriate four-season dome tent to go camping in, that will serve you well for years to come.
