Summary: Favorable Reviews

It's pretty huge. You can even put your dog and your gears. Not expensive and not cheap. I was just impressed that it didn't compromise the quality that you will get for the money that you will be paying.

Teal Thumbs Down Logo

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

The tent is pretty decent. Simple design, though, when you like it simple, then it is a perfect match. Read some problems with other buyers and experienced the same.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Tasmanian 3 has two doors and a peak center height of 4' 6, which is a tiny bit smaller than the average height of the 139 different 3 person tents we have examined With 44 square feet of room inside, it is a little bit smaller than some other 3-person tents, and it could be a little cramped for you and, up to two other campers during the whole of the 4-seasons, this tent is suggested for use in, smaller tents similar to this one can generally make a fantastic choice for people who welcome spending lots of hours outside their tent getting some air.

Some of the great points about dome tents are, that they are generally speaking not too heavy, making them easy to carry. In near all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are usually, freestanding and very straightforward to set up. In calm weather, you could do without securing the tent with stakes and ropes, not that this is suggested.

Dome tents are without a doubt the most commonly seen of all the different types of tents you will find when camping. They tend to do better in storms than other types, allowing water to easily slide off the slanted sides, unlike cabin tents that have flat roofs, allowing the water to pool on the top of the tent. The simplest dome tent will have a square floor, sloped sides two or more poles which cross in the middle of the roof. Due to their construction, it is generally thought of that they are best suited for up to a maximum of 6 campers.

Beneath you can browse an account of the tent's pros and cons.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Tasmanian can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not even have to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibules. Having two vestibules. Affords you a place to store shoes and other things that can get dirty, muddy, this is a huge plus.
  3. Has Gear Loft. It is good to see Alps Mountaineering adding a gear loft in the interior to store some of your things.
  4. More than one door. With 2 doors, it is simpler to get in and out of the tent, in the middle of the night if needed.
  5. Durable, water-resistant floor. The floor material is 75D 185T poly taffeta, which is a substantially thick and high-strength fabric. Meaning the base is not prone to tears and punctures. Also, the material has a 5000 mm waterproofing rating, which is very good for most circumstances.
  6. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the entire body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1500mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy downpours.
  7. Tons of Positive Reviews The Tasmanian 3 has Plenty of excellent Reviews
  8. Excellent Ratings The Tasmanian 3 has some of the best ratings of all the tents on optimumtents.com
  9. Available in other sizes. Alps Mountaineering has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  10. Low price. It is a great purchase for a 3 person dome tent that provides this much room. Not many tents available on the market give this level of quality for only $299.99

CONS

  1. Not spacious. With a floor area of 44 square feet, the Tasmanian 3 is smaller than quite a lot of the 139 other 3 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, there is one available separately designed for the Tasmanian 3 footprint Even though the floor may be made of 75D 185T poly taffeta, it is still better to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  3. A tad heavy for backpacking. Even though the Tasmanian 3, looks like a small tent, it is not ideal for backpacking as it weighs 9 pounds. This is quite a lot more than many other backpacking tents
  4. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have lots of things to rave about. The sloping sides do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

5 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 5.0 STARS

Alps Mountaineering's Tasmanian 3 tent is suitable for base camp and expeditions. Here are a couple of other points not mentioned above which, were found and liked, while researching the model: With an additional pole on the fly, it creates a very large vestibule on the front for even more gear storage., The Tasmanian uses extra-large #8 zippers so opening doors and vestibules are a breeze every time. and Easy entry and great ventilation with two doors (both with zippered mesh windows).

With superb ratings, lots of reviews and a center height of 4' and 44 square feet of space for sleeping, this tent is like your very own small flat. It enables you to enjoy some really enjoyable time camping. We found a decent amount of positive points about the tent that you can read through above.

If you came to this website looking for suggestions on this actual tent, our view is, it would make for an awesome purchase. In case you simply happened to arrive on this page while looking for a brand new tent having not heard of this manufacurer or this tent previously, it is perhaps a good idea to check out a few other similar tents.

Value for money: When thinking about value for your money, this tent is a lot cheaper than the normal cost of all the one hundred and ninety-three, three-person tents we have studied, all alone this does not make it excellent value for money. One should also think about other factors in detail, as we do for each tent.

When we determine the valuation of a single tent, we study a lot of stuff, finding things where the tent could exceed other comparable tents and where it is coming up short. In this case, with a total rating of 5.0 and the price conclusions above, we can identify that with a price of $299.99 The Tasmanian 3 is a remarkable bargain and incredibly cheap when compared with comparable tents.

The ratings show that the quality and size the tent offers were not in any way compromised to obtain a price well beneath the standard price for similar tents. It is also worth thinking about the fact that it is discounted by 0% from the manufactures suggested retail price. It could make an awesome choice for most people searching for an adequate four-season dome tent to go camping in, that will serve you well for years to come.
