Summary: Favorable Reviews

People who used the tent said that: Requires pitching the traditional way, but relatively easy to set up. Protects against rain very well, even in thunderstorms. Generous space inside; can even fit a queen-sized mattress.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

Campers who bought the tent said that: Main rainfly does not cover the porch. During rain, the porch can flood. Also, not enough room for two adults in the screened porch.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Evanston 4 Screened Porch has one window and one door and a maximum center height of 4' 11, which is a tiny bit less than the average height of the 158 other 4 person tents we have studied. With 63 square feet of room inside, it is a little bit smaller than some other 4-person tents, and it could be a little cramped for you and, up to three other campers throughout the 3-seasons, this tent is suggested for use in, smaller tents similar to this one can make a good choice for campers who welcome spending lots of time outside their tent getting some air.

Some of the fantastic things about dome tents are, that they are for, the most part not too heavy, making them easy to carry around. In nearly all instances, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are usually, freestanding and very straightforward to set up. In calm weather, you could do without guy lines and stakes, not that this is suggested.

Dome tents are the most common of all the different types of tents you will see when camping. They tend to fair better in the rain than other types, allowing water to easily slide off the slanted walls, unlike cabin tents that have flat roofs, allowing the water to pool on the roof. The most basic dome tent will have a square footprint, sloped walls a couple of poles which cross in the center of the roof. Because of the way they are made, it is typically considered that they are best suited for up to a maximum of 6 people.

Down below, you can check out an account of the tent's strongest and weakest points.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Evanston Screened Porch can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not even have to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the floor with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Internal storage. It is good to see Coleman has added a gear loft and pockets in the interior to store some of your stuff.
  3. Has a screened area. Having a screened area that is separated from the main body of the tent is a huge plus.
  4. Has awnings. The awnings protect the sides of the tent.
  5. Other sizes are available. Coleman has also made this model available in Other Sizes.
  6. Low price. It is a great purchase for a 4 person dome tent providing this much space. Not a lot of tents available on the market give this level of quality for only $189.99

CONS

  1. Not roomy. With a floor area of 63 square feet, the Evanston 4 is smaller than quite a few of the 159 other 4 person tents we have looked at.
  2. No Vestibules. If you want to keep your dirty shoes, clothes, and backpacks protected from the rain etc, you will have to keep them inside the tent.
  3. Rainfly does not completely cover the tent. The rainfly only covers the ceiling and part of the tent body from the top. Meaning it might not protect against heavy rain.
  4. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, The floor may be made of Polyethylene 1000D but it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  5. Discontinued: Unfortunately this particular tent has been discontinued on the manufactures site and is no longer available elsewhere, that we know of.
  6. A tad heavy for backpacking. Even though the Evanston 4, looks like a small tent, it is not ideal for backpacking as it weighs 16 pounds. This is quite a lot more than many other backpacking tents
  7. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have lots of attributes to be positive about. The sloping walls do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.
  8. Storage Space. because of the size of the tent, one cannot store a lot of gear inside..

CONCLUSION

4.1 Stars Logo

Our Ratings: 4.1 STARS

Coleman's Evanston 4 Screened Porch tent is suitable for car camping. There are a few other cool things not noted above which, were found and liked, while researching the model: Electrical port to bring power and technology inside the tent, Rainfly with windows awnings, protection from rain and sun and On dry nights, gaze at the stars through the mesh roof.

With great ratings, and a peak height of 4' and 63 square feet of space to play with, this tent is like your own modest flat. It will allow you and up to 2 other friends to share some really enjoyable time exploring the great outdoors. We found a decent amount of pros about the tent that you can check out above.

If you found this page looking for suggestions about this particular tent, we consider, it will make for a good acquisition. In case you simply happened to land on this page while browsing for a brand new tent having never heard of this brand or this tent model before, it is probably a good idea to look at a few other comparable tents.

Value for money: As far as value for your dollar, this tent is unquestionably cheaper than the usual price point of all the one hundred and fifty-eight, four-person tents we have studied, this alone does not make it good value for money. We also need to take into account other factors in-depth, as we do for every tent.

When we calculate the overall score of a single tent, we study a lot of things, looking for points where the tent could exceed other very similar tents and where it is lacking. On this occasion, with a total score of 4.1 and the price conclusions above, It is simple to recognize that with a price of $189.99 The Evanston 4 Screened Porch is a good purchase and incredibly priced in comparison with similar tents.

The ratings show that the build and capacity the tent offers were not skimped on to finish up with a price significantly below the normal price for similar tents. It could make a very good choice for most people looking for an adequate three-season dome tent to go camping with, that will serve you well for years to come.
