Summary: Favorable Reviews

Light and compact to store and carry. Extremely easy and fast to set-up. A fantastic 2-3 season tent.

Summary: Unfavorable Reviews

The first year was excellent, except there is no ventilation in the hot weather. The first night on the second year tour the elastic in the poles broke and I had to wait till I got back to send in to have repaired.

SPECS AND CONFIGURATIONS

The Eos 1 has one door and a maximum center height of 3' 0, which is a little bit smaller than the average height of the 68 other 1 person tents we have studied. With 21 square feet of space inside, it is significantly smaller than some other 1-person tents, and it would be quite tight for you throughout the 3-seasons, this tent is suggested for use in, smaller tents like this one can make a good choice for people that appreciate spending lots of hours outside exploring the great outdoors.

A few of the great points about dome tents are, that they are under normal circumstances lightweight, making them easy to carry around. In most all cases, tents used for backpacking are of the dome type. They are generally speaking, freestanding and very easy to set up. In calm weather, you can do without guy lines and stakes, not that this is suggested.

Dome tents are easily the most common of all the other types of tents you will see when camping. They tend to fair better in the rain than other types, allowing water to roll off the slanted walls, unlike cabin tents that have flat roofs, resulting in the rain pooling on the top of the tent. The simplest dome tent will have a rectangular footprint, sloped walls two or more poles which cross in the center of the roof. Because of the way they are made, it is generally considered that they are best for up to a maximum of 6 people.

Down below, you can browse a list of the tent's pros and cons.

PROS

  1. Freestanding. The Eos can support its own weight on any terrain. It does not need to be staked down in most cases. But in case of strong winds, it is always best to secure it to the ground with the included steel stakes and guylines.
  2. Vestibule. Having one vestibule. Gives you somewhere to store shoes and other items that can get dirty, muddy, this is a big plus.
  3. Internal storage. It is nice to see Marmot has added a gear loft and pockets in the interior to store some of your gear.
  4. Durable, water-resistant floor. The floor material is 30D 100% Nylon F/R, which is a substantially thick and high-strength fabric. Meaning the base is not prone to rips and punctures. Also, the material has a 2000 mm waterproofing rating, which is pretty good for most circumstances.
  5. Breathable. The Eos's interior uses a mesh fabric on the inside of the tent, and this helps maximize the flow of air. With the extra ventilation, and this tent is great for use in the summer.
  6. The rainfly completely covers the tent body. The rainfly covers the entire body of the tent from the top to the bottom and has a waterproof rating of 1200mm. Meaning it will easily protect you against heavy rain.

CONS

  1. Not spacious. With a floor area of 21 square feet, the Eos 1 is smaller than quite a lot of the 68 other 1 person tents we have looked at.
  2. Lacking in Headroom. With 8% less headroom than similar sized tents, one can see how this could be a negative thing for some people.
  3. Footprint not Included. There is no included footprint, The floor may be made of 30D 100% Nylon F/R but it is still best to protect it further with a footprint, especially on rough terrain.
  4. Out of Stock. Unfortunately this particular tent is not currently in stock. It is still on the manufactures website the last time we checked.
  5. Unfavorable Ratings. Unfortunatly the Eos 1 has some of the worst ratings of all tents on optimumtents.com
  6. Sloping walls. Even though Dome tents have lots of things to be positive about. The sloping walls do tend to make it all the more smaller inside.

CONCLUSION

3.7 Stars Logo

Marmot's Eos 1 tent is suitable for backpacking. Here are a few other things not mentioned above which, we noticed and liked, while reviewing the model: Can Be Used with Bare Bones Setup, Seam Taped Catenary Cut Floor and Rain-Shield Polyester Flysheet Doesn't Stretch and Sag When Wet and Resists Damage from UV.

With acceptable ratings, a few reviews and a minimum headroom of 3' and 21 square feet of space to play with, this tent is like your own small studio. This allows you to spend some real quality moments camping. We found a decent amount of positive points about the tent that you can read through above.

If you came to this page looking for an endorsement about this actual tent, our view is, it should make for an ok buy. If you simply happened to land on this website while looking for a brand new tent having not heard of this brand or this tent model before, it is probably a good idea to look at some more similar tents also.

Value for money: As far as value for your money, this tent is a wee bit more expensive than the normal price of all the one hundred and six, one-person tents we have studied, this just by itself is not a negative thing. One should also take into account other things in-depth, as we do for each tent.

When we measure the valuation of a single tent, we scrutinize plenty of data points, finding points where the tent could exceed other very similar tents and where it is not quite as good. In this case, with an overall score of 3.7 and the price details above, It is simple enough to identify that with a ticket price of $269 Marmot's Eos 1 is a good bargain the cost is not at all expensive when set side by side with comparable tents.

The ratings show that the build and dimensions, the tent gives you make it a a good buy for campers looking for for a nice 1-person tent. It will make a good choice for nearly all campers searching for a comfy three-season backpacking tent to go camping with, that will serve you well.
